The second Istanbul Children’s and youth Art Biennial, the first of which was held in conjunction with Istanbul 2010 capital of culture, is taking place november 6 to December 6.
Launched with the support of the Istanbul 2010 Capital of Culture Agency and organized by the Provincial Education Directorate, the 2nd Istanbul Children’s and Youth Art Biennial is enveloping the city from Beyoğlu to Tuzla and Kadıköy to Sultanbeyli. The key feature of this biennial is the way that public spaces live ferries and city squares are beiny transformed into exhibition venues for events aimed at disadvantaged children.
Organized with the backing of numerous state institutions, the STK and 39 district municipalities, the biennial is a platform for the works of children and young people aged 1 to 18. Nor is the biennial is limited to exhibitions. “Dream Child, Real Child” is the theme of the biennial, which also includes workshops, panels and bands.
FROM DREAM TO REALITY
Esra Çelikkanat from the biennial’s curator team emphasizes that dream and reality feed each other and that having dreams fosters children’s development. “People can dream at any age,” she adds, “but perhaps most intensively in childhood and youth. Dreams are the source and beginning of reality.”
