Looking East From The West

Known for its exhibitions featuring prominent examples of western art as well as the Turkish-Islamic heritage, Sakıp Sabancı Museum this time is bringing art lovers The 1001 Faces of Orientalism.

The exhibition, which closely examines Orientalism, a concept that gained currency with growing interest in the East in 19th century Europe, has been put together in consultation with a team of academics and leading experts in the field. It looks at Orientalism from the perspective of the interaction between East and West and the debates on the subject sparked by Edward Said’s book of the same name. A series of related events parallels the exhibition through August 11.
