Dear Passengers,

We wish to share with you the good news that Turkish Airlines ended the year 2001 with profits of 6.7 million US$. At a time when world aviation is going through a serious crisis, this achievement is particularly noteworthy. Rapid and decisive implementation of cost-cutting measures by our management is the principal means by which we have minimised the effects of the crisis on our airline. Undoubtedly, too, the support of Turkish Airlines personnel, our trade union and our esteemed passengers has contributed significantly to this success. Therefore we wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our colleagues and to our passengers, who have always lent their trust and support to Turkish Airlines.

In taking economy measures, we have raised productivity and work quality to new heights, without compromising flight safety in the slightest degree. According to a survey carried out by the Association of European Airlines, Turkish Airlines has risen to first place among European airlines where 'Reduction of takeoff delays for technical reasons' is concerned. This is a clear indicator that at a time when many airlines are taking measures to survive in this period of crisis for the aviation sector Turkish Airlines has not made any concessions in flight safety or service quality, even under the most difficult conditions. The THY Technical Maintenance Centre holds the ISO 9002 quality certificate, and THY is furthermore justly proud to have been given the A-340 Operational Excellence Award by Airbus, the Citation of Operator Excellence by Boeing for its 737s, and the World-Class Performance Award by BAE Systems for its RJ aircraft.

The outstanding performance achieved by all our departments at every stage in the service chain is the outcome of our endeavour to ensure that our passengers enjoy relaxing and safe flights. We are launching scheduled flights to Pristina on 15 April as our first new initiative in 2002, which we are confident will be an auspicious year.
