Insects first evolved 350 million years ago, and with over
one million species constitute five sixths of all
living creatures.
When God created the world and the living species
upon it, He devoted most time to insects. These
tiny creatures are masterpieces of ingenuity, possessing
strength and beauty quite out of proportion to their
size. They easily escape attention, but once examined
closely their exquisite detail, colours and diversity
are astonishing. Some of them can produce a drop
of poison invisible to the naked eye but capable
of instantly killing creatures thousands of times
larger than themselves. Insects were first created
350 million years ago, and over a million species
have so far been identified, constituting no less
than five sixths of all living creatures.
