Haluk Bilginer, who graduated from the department of drama
in the Turkish State Conservatoire, started his artistic
life in England and made his most important career
decisions there. He has continued along the path of
success back in his own country and has been maintaining
the steady progress to being a worthwhile actor for
the past thirty-one years.
During the first years of your career you spent
more than
10 years in England. You took part in important
projects. What effect did this period have on your
career?
It is safe to say that my career started in England.
I went to England in 1977 and stayed there without
any breaks until 1993. Later on I returned to Turkey
and opened the Drama Studio with Amet Levendoglu
and Zuhal Olcay. This is how I started to play roles
in the theatre, cinema and TV. At first, acting
in Turkish seemed a bit weird to me.
