A Medley Of Cultures
A Medley Of Cultures
A CONCERT CALLED GATES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN IS GIVING THE MUSIC OF THE SEA’S CULTURES A NEW SOUND. AND IT’S COMING TO LISTENERS AT THE FRENCH CULTURAL CENTER ON FEBRUARY 27.
Aimed at creating communication among the different musical traditions of the Mediterranean by arranging and re-composing traditional pieces of music from Provence, the Maghreb and Central Asia, the concert promises to take listeners on a musical journey of the region. Bringing together Miquéu Montanaro (Occitane composer and multi-instrumentalist), Frédéric Tavernier-Vellas (singer and master of Greek songs), Fouad Didi (master of Andalusian Arab music), and Turkish musicians Stelyo Berberis (chanson) and Ali Fuat Aydın (divan), the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
Music that Speaks to Everyone
Entrance is free to this concert highlighting dialogue between cultures. We recommend that everyone who happens to be on İstiklal Caddesi the evening of Wednesday, February 27, joins in this musical journey. For a culture-filled evening, visit the exhibit at the French Cultural Center before the concert.
