Ankara sings jazz

The Ankara International Jazz Festival, coming to Ankara jazz lovers this year on 13-25 November, has an especially rich program in honor of the 50th anniversary of Middle East Technical University, the 40th anniversary of Hacettepe University, and the 10th anniversary of METU’s ‘Jazz Days’. The theme of the festival, realized by the Ankara Jazz Society with organization by LEO, is ‘Singing Jazz’. The opening concert of this year’s festival, which is heavy on vocals, will be given by the ‘Eagles of Jazz’ Orchestra with its spanking new repertoire, accompanied by Nükhet Ruacan, Neşet Ruacan and Durul Gence. Other festival stars include the famous French jazz artists JP Gallis & Apopsis 7 featuring Sibel Köse (16 November), the well-known German vocalist Esther Keiser and her Trio (17 November); the Tuna Ötenel Quartet (18 November); Önder Focan and Dutch vocalist Fleurine (20 November), the Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra featuring Carla Bley (22 November), Şefika Kutluer and the Claude Bolling Trio (23 November), Antonello Salis and the Michele Rabbia Duo (24 November), and Brazilian Lica Cecato (25 November).
