Towards the Republic

İş Bank is celebrating the 125th anniversary of the birth of Atatürk in an exhibition, ‘Towards the Republic’, which chronicles the process of Turkey’s War of Liberation and the road to the founding of the Republic in newly unearthed documents. Mounted at the Bank’s former Yenicami branch building, the exhibition uses an innovative format to convey the period from the Allied occupation of the Ottoman Empire at the end of the First World War up to the founding of the Republic of Turkey. While one section of the 800-square meter exhibition area employs an interactive system involving digital technology and sense perception, the other incorporates a more traditional museum-style display. The exhibition, which consists of four sections--the Erzurum and Sivas Congresses; the Anatolian resistance and opening of the Grand National Assembly; the Treaties of Sèvres and Lausanne; and the founding of the Republic, vividly recreates for visitors the atmosphere of the period in a multimedia extravaganza of films, projections, sound and visuals.
Timed to inaugurate the newly opened Türkiye İş Bank Museum, ‘Towards the Republic - 1919-1923: The Road to Freedom and Independence’ runs through 30 December.
