Rembrandt’s drawings in Pera

Works by ‘Painter of Light’ Rembrandt van Rijn, the 400th anniversary of whose birth is being celebrated throughout the world this year, are being exhibited for the first time in Turkey at the Pera Museum of the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation. The exhibition, ‘Rembrandt and His Circle--Drawings’, which opens the season at the museum, consists of drawings by the great 17th century master and his circle from the collection of the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum of Rotterdam. Supported by Koç Allianz, it runs from 20 October through 7 January in the Pera Museum’s 4th and 5th floor galleries. Lectures and panel discussions by international experts on Rembrandt and his work will be open to art lovers free of charge in the Museum auditorium for the duration. Concurrently, the Pera Museum has opened its third floor gallery to an exhibition of old Istanbul photographs from its own collection, ‘From Konstantiniyye to Istanbul--Photographs of the Rumeli Shore of the Bosphorus from the Mid-19th to the 20th Century’. A book, by architect M. Sinan Genim and scholar Ahmet Abut, has been compiled by the Istanbul Research Institute to accompany the exhibition, which includes photographs by such period masters as Robertson, Kargopulo, Pascal Sebah, Sebah&Joaillier, the Abdullah Brothers, and the Gülmez Brothers.
