Exhibition of banners at Bishkek

Ebru Acar Taralp, a faculty member in the Plastic Arts Department of the College of Fine Arts of Maltepe University, is opening a painting exhibition in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek on 5 March.

The exhibition, titled ‘Alem, Âlim, Âlem', will be opened at the Museum of Modern Arts by Turkey’s ambassador to Bishkek, Serpil Alpman. As old as human history itself, the banners known as ‘alem’ in Turkish are defined as symbols that unite people under a single flag while at the same time symbolizing ‘strength’ and ‘power'. Also among the concepts questioned by this artist is the notion that, “Scholars and artists are concrete examples of abstract pathfinders in society.”
