Known for his ‘Fat Sculptures’ and ‘One-minute Sculptures’, artist Erwin Wurm is at Akbank Sanat through December in an exhibition promoting his work.

‘‘Hybrid Spaces, Corridors’, an exhibition by artist Azade Köker, who pursues her career in Berlin, is on at Galeri Dell-Arte through December 4.

Balkan Naci İslimyeli is celebrating a forty-year career in an exhibition, ‘Air-Water-Earth-Fire’, opening at İş Sanat Kibele Galerisi on December 10.

Originally established in honor of Turkish literary figure Memet Fuat, who died in 2002, awards in the fields of Criticism, the Essay and Publishing will be given again this year for the 6th time. Applicants may enter any works published between January 1 and December 31, 2009.

An exhibition entitled ‘Kristal’ by Bahar Oganer, an artist who works in acrylic on large canvases, opens at Dirimart on December 10.

Banu Birecikligil is bringing art lover her 4th one-man show, ‘Gece Karşılaşması’ (Nocturnal Encounter), at Galeri X-Ist from November 19 through December 19. The artist, who combined visuals childhood images, family photographs and newspapers in her previous shows, has completely distanced herself from the external world this time to embark on a nocturnal journey between earth and sky.

A graduate student in the Plastic Arts Department of Yeditepe University’s School of Fine Arts, Selma Tuna Doğan is opening her new exhibition of acrylics on canvas at Ziraat Bank’s Tünel Art Gallery on December 7.  Through December 25.

The 13th European Short Track Championship will be held at Abdi İpekçi Arena on December 10-13. 866 athletes and trainers from 41 countries will be in the competition, which is expected to be watched by 600 million. Last year’s championship was held in Croatian.
