The 66th Venice Film Festival
That will take place between 2-12 September, is opening with ‘Nuovo Cinema Paradiso’ director Giuseppe Tornatore’s latest film, ‘Baaria’. Chairman of the festival jury is the Taiwanese director Ang Lee, whose ‘Brokeback Mountain’ in 2005 and ‘Lust, Caution’ in 2007 both took the coveted Golden Lion award. Twenty-three films from countries such as France, Italy, Austria, Israel, Egypt, China, Sri Lanka, Germany, Japan and the U.S. are competing in the festival.

‘Köprüdekiler’ at the Toronto Film Festival
Chosen best film at the Istanbul and Adana film festivals, Aslı Özges’ ‘The Men on the Bridge’ had its world premiere on 7 August at Switzerland’s 62nd Locarno Film Festival. The film will be shown at the 34th Toronto Film Festival, just before London and Montpelier film festivals.

Montreal Film Festival begins
The 33rd Montreal Film Festival got under way on 27 August. The festival, which runs through 7 September, features films by a number of leading directors from all over the world in the category, ‘A Look at World Cinema’. Among the films that are coming together to create cultural diversity and a dialogue between countries are: Atıl İnaç’s second feature-length film, ‘Büyük Oyun’, and Çağan Irmak’s latest film, ‘Karanlıktakiler’.
