Baroque Music Days

World renowned musicians will be in Istanbul January 7-21 for Akbank Sanat’s Baroque Music Days.

A focus of considerable interest in past years, Akbank Sanat’s Baroque Music Days have heightened interest in Baroque music in Turkey. This year’s festival includes four concerts, kicking off with a recital by one of Europe’s leading Baroque violinists, Helene Schmitt, on the evening of Thursday, January 7th. Schmitt, who specializes in the solo violin repertoire from the 17th to the early 19th century, has received high praise from music critics for her recordings of J.S. Bach’s well-known sonatas and partitas for solo violin.

Baroque Music Days continues with a concert by Jesenka Balic Zunic and Manami Haraguchi on the evening of Thursday, January 14th. Meanwhile Joel Frederikson, who has won acclaim for his coloratura basso profundo voice with its wide range and his moving interpretations, will perform on Tuesday, January 19th. The festival ends with a recital by the eminent Turkish harpist Şirin Pancaroğlu on January 21st. Pancaroğlu, who relates to her listeners through her sincere and unaffected approach, will take the stage with a repertoire of traditional music from various parts of the world.
