VIEWING HISTORY THROUGH ART
Osman Hamdi Bey and the Americans: Archaeology, Diplomacy, Art, continues at Pera Museum through January 8. Some paintings in the Pera Museum exhibit are coming to Turkish art lovers for the first time.
One of the outstanding features of this exhibition is that it considers Osman Hamdi Bey not merely as a painter but also as an archaeologist and museologist. Shedding light on the first excavations by American archaeologists on Ottoman soil and on American-Ottoman diplomatic relations, the exhibition also includes some paintings by Osman Hamdi Bey from the University of Pennsylvania Museum that have never been seen before in Turkey.
