Loud And In Your Face: Contemporary Art
ONE OF ISTANBUL’S NEW VENUES WHERE CONTEMPORARY ART SPEAKS LOUDLY, ARTER IS STOPPING PASSERSBY IN THEIR TRACKS WITH ITS SECOND EXHIBITION, TITLED ”SECOND EXHIBITION”.
Curated by Emre Baykal, the show features more than 30 works by 20 artists, all but three of them new. Those three are Halil Altındere’s Portrait of a Dealer, Ahmet Öğüt’s Black Diamond and Vahap Afşar’s Last Drop.
The show doffs its hat to visitors with Ayşe Erkmen’s K,J & H’ The story of these hats that are stealing the hearts of passersby began when Erkmen learned that the building that houses Arter was a hat shop from 1914 to 1920 and recalled her grandmother Hermine Hanım’s hat from the 1920’s. She gave the long-retired hat to Katya Kıracı, a maker of hand-made hats in a small shop in the Hacopulos Arcade, who produced dozens of exact replicas, in every color of the rainbow…
33,000 GAME OF CHANCE COUPONS

FIND THE FRAGMENT, GET THE DIAMOND!
Ahmet Öğut’s project, Black Diamond includes the viewer in it. This is how it works: There are 10 tons of coal in a glassed-in area. Amidst the coal is a tiny fragment of plaster chipped off of Arter’s walls.
A one-carat diamond was placed in the aperture in the wall. By making an appointment and donning a pair of overalls, visitors can search for that tiny wall fragment. Whoever finds it will get the diamond! And according to the latest report, the fragment was found by two university students. Whew!
