Thinking To See

Borusan Contemporary Is Hosting Austrian Artist Brigitte Kowanz’s Exhibition, Cut A Long Story Short, Between September 15 And January 20.

Kowanz, who usually works in light and neon, transforms all the gadgets we are more used to seeing today in their information-technology aspects into aesthetic objects. Detaching them from their usual associations and installing them in a venue either darkened or multiplied with mirrors, she offers the viewer an opportunity to see and experience the venue, the work, even time, differently. The fact that the works are both objects to be looked at and sources of light leads a person to rethink numerous phenomena such as looking, seeing, perceiving, reality and sign.

Cut a Long Story Short is also the title of Kowanz’s latest work and, one of the key pieces in the show. At Borusan Contemporary, the exhibition can be visited between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 noon daily except on Saturdays and Sundays and the first days of the Feast of Sacrifice (October 25).
