Turkish Airlines’ website captures two awards

Turkish Airlines’ website, www.thy.com, has captured two awards in the ‘Fifth Golden Spider Web Awards’: first place in the ‘E-Commerce’ category, and second in the category ‘Institutional Communications’.

On behalf of Turkish Airlines, the airline’s vice-president Bilal Ekşi accepted the awards at a ceremony held at the Süleyman Demirel Facilities of Istanbul Technical University on 25 January. The websites were evaluated according to a total of nine different criteria in the ‘Fifth Golden Spider Web Awards’, in which a total of 1061 websites competed.

Turkish Airlines’ website, www.thy.com, allows visitors to monitor baggage and cargo, purchase bonus tickets, and redeem lost miles. It is visited by two and a half million visitors a year, up from one million, and numerous passengers have expressed their appreciation both of its design and of its user-friendliness. As the face Turkish Airlines presents to its customers, the website’s importance is inestimable. In an announcement he made regarding the awards ceremony, Turkish Airlines’ president Temel Kotil, Ph.D. said he was very happy that the website, to which the airline gives such importance, was deemed worthy of an award. “For any institution,” said Kotil, “the way to enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty lies through understanding that customer. We therefore keep every channel of communication with our customers open. It was for this reason that we undertook a complete reconstruction of our website. We now offer service in 17 languages, and we are continuing to increase the quality and variety of services we offer all the time. For example, we now offer on-line boarding, which is available at only a handful of the world’s airlines. This enables you to check in on our website, get your boarding pass on line, and proceed directly to the airplane upon arrival at the airport.”
