Turkish Airlines is Star Alliance’s 20th member

Turkish Airlines has become the 20th member of the Star Alliance, the world's first ever airline alliance.

The signing ceremony, attended by the CEO's of the member airlines, Star Alliance officials and members of the press, was held at the Istanbul Çırağan Hotel. The Chairman of Turkish Airlines' Board of Directors, Dr. Candan Karlıtekin, the Airline President, Temel Kotil, Ph.D., and the CEO of Star Alliance, Jaan Albrecht, signed the agreement, which makes Turkish Airlines a full Star member.

Speaking of Turkish Airlines' induction into the alliance, Mr. Albrecht said: “We have gained a new member. Our passengers will reach new destinations in the world with Turkish Airlines.”

Turkish Airlines' Board Chairman, Dr. Candan Karlıtekin, who also spoke at the ceremony, commented: “We have set the bar at the highest level and are joining your ranks as a Turkish Airlines that is growing, developing and changing by the day and moving rapidly towards its goal. Our joining the Star Alliance is an important step towards the goal of becoming a major player in world aviation and a global trademark.”

Turkish Airlines' President, Temel Kotil, Ph.D., said that membership in the Star Alliance was a significant step in the history of the airline, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and that this initiative would be a great boon for Istanbul, which links Europe and Asia, making it the 'Bosphorus Bridge of Aviation.' With its quality and experience,” added Kotil, “Turkish Airlines aims to become more active in the global market. The synergy created by its membership in the Star Alliance is going to make this great club even stronger.”
