Dear Guests, Having become an important actor in global aviation after making great strides and achieving much success in recent years, this month Turkish Airlines takes another very important step.

In the 16 months since we signed an integration protocol on 9 December 2006 with Star Alliance, the world’s first and largest airline alliance, we’ve swiftly completed our preparations to join. As you read this piece, Turkish Airlines will have formally joined Star Alliance following a signing ceremony in Istanbul on April 1st . Turkish Airlines has extended its ability to offer passengers safe flight and quality service with truly global reach. We join Star Alliance as its 20th member, and as a result of our membership in the alliance, Turkish Airlines passengers will have the benefit of choosing from among more than 17,500 daily flights to reach 965 airports in 162 countries. In addition, passengers who are enrolled in member frequent flyer programs will be able to use their mileage points within a wider network. Owing to the travel options and comfort afforded to member airline passengers, Star Alliance was named the “Best Airline Alliance” by Business Traveller Magazine in 2003 and 2006 and by Skytrax in 2003 and 2005.

We regard membership in Star Alliance as an important milestone in the history of Turkish Airlines, which will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year, and we believe that it will add value to Istanbul, a city straddling Asia and Europe, making it the “Bosphorus Bridge” of world aviation. As Turkish Airlines employs its vision, experience and service quality to become more effective in the global market, the synergy created by Turkish Airlines’ membership in Star Alliance is certain to further strengthen this great alliance. I wish this to be an auspicious union for Turkish Airlines, Star Alliance and for Turkey.

Parallel with our alliance-related efforts, in order to improve our product, we continue to broaden our network of destinations and increase our flight frequencies. We shall commence flights between Istanbul and Aleppo on May 15th as the first of 11 previously announced new routes that will be inaugurated during the 2008 summer timetable, which took effect on March 30.

The ‘Honorary Observer Program', which was started as part of our efforts to offer customer-focused services, has completed its first year. On the occasion, last month we gathered together with our Turkish Airlines (THY) Honorary Observers at the Assembly of THY Friends meeting. We listened to the observations and suggestions of THY Friends, and we shared information about our work and improvements initiated based on topics raised by our observers over the past year. I would like to share with you that we aim to be able to ascertain how our passengers perceive our service quality and make improvements accordingly by increasing the number of participants in the Honorary Observer Program.

During this month in which Turkish Airlines makes important strides, we will also celebrate a holiday set aside for our children, who are the promise of our future. I would like to take this opportunity to honor the April 23rd National Sovereignty & Children’s Holiday, and I wish you all a pleasant voyage.
