Two thousand nine was a rather difficult year for the global economy with serious contractions in our sector especially. But for Turkish Airlines, 2009 went down in history as a year of rapidly expanding investment and uninterrupted growth. Now we are working hard as a family to turn 2010 into an opportunity, just as we did 2009.

While IATA is forecasting a serious cash shortage and a net global loss of US$ 5.6 billion in the world aviation sector, for us here at Turkish Airlines 2010 looks like being a year when we will raise worldwide market awareness of our brand to the maximum as well as boosting the quality of our service even as we try to economize. We are also targeting high growth in revenues as we increase our share in the global market.
As part of our plans to expand our fleet, we have ordered 24 new wide-body aircraft, 22 of them passenger planes and two cargo. Most recently our company decided to purchase a total of thirty aircraft from the Airbus A 320 family, ten of them on option. With our new flight routes, the new planes joining our fleet and the strategic partnerships we continue to forge with the world’s best, we are determined to sustain our title of ‘fastest growing airline in Europe’. The cornerstone of our plans for 2010 therefore is our vision ‘to cover important ground towards becoming one of Europe’s top three airlines by achieving a target of 30 million passengers’.

Dear Passengers,
A global network carrier, Turkish Airlines is attracting worldwide attention with its rising market value and ongoing investments. On January 18th we signed an official sponsorship agreement with FC Barcelona, one of the world’s most successful football clubs. And only four days later we decided to enter into a second sponsorship agreement, this time with Manchester United.

Turkish Airlines’ quality has received the stamp of approval of the world’s top organizations through these agreements, which have made quite an impact. Although our cooperation with the clubs we sponsor is motivated by the quality of our product, it also makes a significant contribution to the global nature and standing of our trademark. Mr. Joan Laporta, President of FC Barcelona, was particularly impressed by our high standard of service on a flight he made with Turkish Airlines. The cooperation that resulted when he shared with his team the idea of flying with us is an example of a far-reaching strategic partnership based on that quality.

The tremendous interest shown by our passengers encourages us to work even harder and increases our motivation to give them even even more.  For we are going to strive with all our might to ensure that our passengers, every one of whom is our boss and a ‘star’, will find even more than they seek in Turkish Airlines in 2010. We are going to continue supporting cultural and social projects this year even as we save every lira that does not go to our passengers in the form of service. In addition to its efforts to reduce fuel consumption and invest in the environment, Turkish Airlines intends to utilize all its resources as productively as possible to further enhance global awareness of Istanbul as European Capital of Culture 2010.
