The Open de Andalusia golf tournament is an important leg of The European Tour program. And the role of Miguel, himself a world-renowned Spanish golfer, as both the organizer and a player in the tournament, is a vitally important key to the event’s success.
Miguel regards this golf event as a serious job which he oversees personally down to the fine details. The master, who says that he considers himself very fortunate because of everything golf has given him all his life, believes that he has also added value to golf and that his dedication to the sport occupies a central place in his life.
‘COSTA DEL GOLF’, THE GOLF COAST
Referring to Málaga’s famous Costa del Sol, the famous master says he is on the way to making the city the new ‘Costa del Golf’, or Golf Coast. ForJiménez is an Andalusian and a Málagan above all else. Spain’s master golfer, he describes Turkish Airlines’ official airline partnership of the event as a delightful and significant initiative. We’ve brought Turkish Airlines on board, says Jiménez, who hopes the cooperation will continue for the long haul.
RACE TO DUBAI
The Open de Andalucía is part of The European Tour Tournament program, which is also known as the Race to Dubai. Upwards of fifty tournaments to be held in 25 different countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South Africa and the U.S.A. are on The European Tour International season program, which climaxes in Dubai with the Dubai World Championship.
Joining the tournament from England was David Howell, one of his country’s most successful and best known golfers. Howell said he was glad to be part of the Andalucía Open, which is a world class event, adding that, like everybody else, he was pleased at Turkish Airlines’ official airlines partnership. Howell went on to say that he had heard a lot about the golf courses in Antalya and would be happy to come to the city and play with Turkish Airlines’ official airline partnership.
Tournament champion in 2004, Kenneth Ferrie, also from England, said he had done his best in the tournament and that, together with organizer Miguel Angel Jiménez, he was very impressed with Turkish Airlines’ official airline partnership of the event, which he termed an especially timely and terrific project.
A native of Spain and Andalucía like tournament organizer Miguel Angel Jiménez, Alvaro Quiros, another internationally successful golfer, thanked Turkish Airlines and tournament host Jiménez and all those whose efforts went into organizing the event.
TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR JOSÉ MARIA ZAMORA
Director of The European Tour, José Maria Zamora said that the tournament was a source of pride that called for expressions like ‘first class event’ and ‘first class partner’. He concluded his remarks by saying that Turkish Airlines is not only a first-class operation but also the sponsor of his own favorite team, FC Barcelona.

Málaga Airport is currently one of Europe’s most important airports with connections to many places around the world. We regard this direct link between Istanbul and Málaga as a very welcome development.
Have you ever been to Turkey?
Yes, I’ve been to Ankara.
What are your thoughts about Turkish Airlines’ official airlines partnership?
As the government of the Andalusian region we regard Turkish Airlines’ partnerhip as an important development and very good news, and we hope such initiatives will continue in the future.
Málaga is one of Andalucía’s major cities along with Granada, Córdoba, Sevilla, Murcia and Almería. Coming under Phoenician, Roman and Arab rule in the past, Málaga is a historic city as well as a touristic paradise.
The vast coasts of the Costa del Sol, the last bay before the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, begin to fill with tourists starting in early spring. Historic Alcazaba, the Picasso Museum, the Costa del Sol and the cafes at the city center are just some of places you must see in Málaga.
If you like seafood, you’ll be more than pleased by the abundance of fresh fish you’ll find there at extremely reasonable prices. You can also explore the Alhambra Palace and Córdoba Mosque on day tours from Málaga, which is not far form those two cities.
