Welcome

Dear Guests,

Situated where Asia and Europe meet in the most significant manner, Istanbul has been a city at the center of life, art and culture for thousands of years. Now this historical, yet modern and energetic city of ours wants to have the honor of hosting the 2020 Olympic Games, to which it has aspired for a long time.

Turkey is putting forward a comprehensive Olympic vision. In a process clinched by the vision of our Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the steadfast approach of our government and our country’s strong economic status, Istanbul is preparing step by step for this monumental event.

The Marmaray Project, which makes it possible to cross the Bosphorus under water, the construction of a third Bosphorus bridge whose contract agreement was finalized in recent months, and numerous other infrastructure projects are carrying Istanbul both to the Olympics and the future. In addition, thanks to an allocation of about twenty billion dollars for Olympics facilities, infrastructure and superstructure projects alone, the games are slated to have a long lasting socio-cultural and sports legacy. In short, Istanbul is eager, determined and ready to welcome the Olympics.

The year 2020 when the Olympics will be held will also be a turning point for the aviation industry of our country. A year when the axis of world passenger traffic will have shifted to Istanbul through a period that will see not only the completion of a third airport, considered as the biggest of its kind in the world, but will also wittness Turkey manufacturing its own civil and commercial aircraft as part of its vision for 2023, the 100th anniversary of our Republic.

Here at Turkish Airlines we are engaged in an intensive round of investments and efforts to meet this challenge head on. As of 2020, we aim to achieve a passenger capacity of 100 million with 415 planes. Already the airline that flies to more countries than any other airline in the world, we are moving forward toward our goals with the determination to do whatever it takes to further expand our flight network in that period, and turn Istanbul, a natural meeting point in terms of geography and time zone, in the world’s aviation hub.
I wholeheartedly believe that Istanbul with its history, cultural fabric, hospitality and geographical situation is going to experience a well-deserved joy of hosting the 2020 Olympic Games, as it has aspired to for years.

I thank you for choosing Turkish Airlines for your travels and wish you a pleasant flight.

Sincerely yours,
Temel Kotil, Ph.D. President & CEO
