United States of America (USA) is composed of 50 states. With a population of about 3 million (the population of metropolitan area; nearly 9.5 million), Chicago is the largest city in the state of Illinois and the third largest one in the United States. While Illinois State is placed at the north central of USA, Chicago is located in the northeastern Illinois, on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. Chicago is a fundamental focus of transportation, culture, politics, industry, finance, medicine and higher education. It is the business, cultural and financial capital of the Midwestern United States. With its charming architectural sights, Chicago is the city where the first high-rise building of the world was constructed in 1885.
