Turkish Airlines pioneers first locally produced galleys

Turkish Airlines takes the delivery of the first airplane from Boeing, featuring galleys from Turkish Cabin Interiors.

TCI becomes first Turkish company to manufacture and certify products for the aerospace market. Created and built by a partnership between Turkish Airlines, Turkish Airlines Technic Inc. and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI); Turkish Cabin Interiors (TCI) debuts the first locally produced airplane featuring galleys as it enters passenger service.

The airplane is a 737-800 Next-Generation that was delivered to Turkish Airlines earlier in February. The airline will receive this year nine more airplanes equipped with TCI galleys.

TCI is the first Turkish aerospace manufacturing company to design, manufacture, and certify products for the aerospace market, paving the way for ongoing development of aerospace capabilities in Turkey. Boeing has been assisting TCI in the development of airplane interior products since shortly after the company was founded through joint effort of Turkish Airlines, Turkish Aerospace Industries and Turkish Technic. With this milestone, TCI brings added capacity and capability to the global supply chain in times of commercial airplanes production ramp up.

“This is a year in which we will put special emphasis on further building our infrastructure. As we continue to improve the quality of service and expand our presence in the global aviation industry, we also put a high priority on extending and further developing the Turkish aviation industry. By establishing Turkish Cabin Interiors (TCI), we have taken a more active role in the Turkish industry through logistical support. Today we mark the delivery of the first aircraft equipped with a galley system designed by TCI, an installation manufactured in Turkey that conforms to all international standards. This Boeing 737-800 Next-Generation is the first of ten aircraft to be delivered throughout this year and we look forward to the TCI brand soon becoming popular across the industry.” said Hamdi Topçu, Board Chairman of Turkish Airlines.

“This milestone event demonstrates the deep and growing partnership between Boeing and the Turkish aerospace industry,” said Bernard J. Dunn, President of Boeing Turkey and North Africa. “Manufacturing for aerospace is demanding in terms of regulatory compliance and certification. For TCI to design, manufacture and certify their galley product in just three short years speaks a great deal about the quality of their people as well as their product.”

“Trust, Being visionary and Team Spirit summarized our collaboration between our valuable partner Boeing, our valuable Shareholders Turkish Airlines, Turkish Technic, Turkish Aerospace Industries and TCI” said Ahmet Çağrı Özer, General Manager of TCI Cabin Interior Inc. “With this important collaboration we are combining our dynamism and perfection with the global Boeing experience for excellence in order to be one of the global Cabin Interior Manufacturing Company. I believe we are once again, with this mutual effort, provided Turkish People willingness and motivation for being one of the leading producer of technology and innovation.”

Beyond storage and facilitation of food service, galleys offer airlines an opportunity to differentiate the customer experience through efficiency, interior design, and comfort. Having another supplier of components for airplane interiors gives more choice and flexibility to airplane customers while increasing capacity in the global supply chain to meet the growing demand for commercial aircraft.

The Boeing 737-800 is one of the best-selling versions of the highly successful Next-Generation 737 family, the most technologically advanced airplanes in the single-aisle market. The Next-Generation 737's market success has been confirmed by investors who consistently rank it as the most preferred single-aisle airplane due to its wide market base, superior performance efficiency and lowest operating costs in its class.
