Turkish Airlines debuts new Boeing 737-800 and 737-900ERs featuring the Sky Interior...

Turkish Airlines announced today that its recent order of 20 Boeing 737-800s and 15 Boeing 737-900ERs will all feature the innovative Sky Interior, bringing a new level of design and comfort to passengers.
The interiors feature light-emitting diodes that create soft blue overhead illumination as well as new cove lighting. The sidewall panels have been sculpted in a new curving pattern that draws the traveler’s eye to the window and the views outside. Additionally, new, larger overhead bins provide more storage space and are pivoted in a way that makes use easier, while actually increasing cabin space.
Four of the aircraft (2 Boeing 737-800, 2 Boeing 737-900ER) will be delivered and added to the airline’s fleet in November and December, 2011, with delivery of the all airplanes to be completed until the end of 2015. These new aircraft are a part of Turkish Airlines’ ongoing fleet expansion and renewal, giving the carrier one of the most modern and technologically advanced fleets in the world.
Following the delivery in Seattle, Turkish Airlines has contracted with PATS Aircraft Systems in Georgetown, Delaware to install two additional fuel tanks increasing the Boeing 737-900ERs’ range. The 900ER airplanes are scheduled to be used primarily on African routes where they will introduce an improved standard of comfort and schedule frequency. Due to the fact that these aircraft will be dedicated to longer-haul routes, requiring greater comfort, the seats in both business and economy classes have more pitch (8 inch business, 3-4 inch economy) than those on the short-haul aircraft.
