Museums, Public Squares, Historical Locations, Monuments
One of the renovated museums of the city, the Zeppelin Museum, can be visited to learn about both the details about the discovery of aircrafts and the history of Friedrichshafen. It is said that one of the largest aircraft collections in the world is displayed in this museum. A replica of the Hindenburg Zeppelin (LZ 129 Hindenburg), remembered for the disaster that took place in 1937, is the piece that attracts the most attention. The museum, located on number 2 Seestraße, also provides its visitors with the opportunity to have a zeppelin ride.
Friedrichshafen's famous “Zeppelin Well” was rebuilt in 2000, true to its original model from 1909. This zeppelin, which was destroyed in World War II, can be seen right next to the Zeppelin Monument that was erected in honor of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, on Uferstrasse.
The Castle Church of Friedrichshafen (Schloss Kirche), the height of which amounts to 55 meters, is one of the symbolic structures of the city. The church, the construction of which took place between 1695 and 1701, is also one of the most well-known examples of baroque architecture in the region. It is also possible to tour the church, accompanied by a guide.
Another structure from approximately the same time period is Friedrichshafen Castle. This building, which originally was opened for service as a monastery in 1654, is also being used today as the residence of Friedrich, the Duke of Württemberg.
Schulmuseum Friedrichshafen is an interesting museum that displays the development of the German education system. This story, which starts from the educational establishments of the 800s in the form of monasteries and reaches our time, is told in great detail.
