Museums, Public Squares, Historical Locations, Monuments

One of the renovated museums of the city, the Zeppelin Museum, can be visited to  learn about both the details about the discovery of aircrafts and the history of Friedrichshafen. It is said that one of the largest aircraft collections in the world is displayed in this museum. A replica of the Hindenburg Zeppelin (LZ 129 Hindenburg), remembered for the disaster that took place in 1937, is the piece that attracts the most attention. The museum, located on number 2 Seestraße, also provides its visitors with the opportunity to have a zeppelin ride.

Friedrichshafen's famous “Zeppelin Well” was rebuilt in 2000, true to its original model from 1909. This zeppelin, which was destroyed in World War II, can be seen right next to the Zeppelin Monument that was erected in honor of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, on Uferstrasse.

The Castle Church of Friedrichshafen (Schloss Kirche), the height of which amounts to 55 meters, is one of the symbolic structures of the city. The church, the construction of which took place between 1695 and 1701, is also one of the most well-known examples of baroque architecture in the region. It is also possible to tour the church, accompanied by a guide.

Another structure from approximately the same time period is Friedrichshafen Castle. This building, which originally was opened for service as a monastery in 1654, is also being used today as the residence of Friedrich, the Duke of Württemberg.

Schulmuseum Friedrichshafen is an interesting museum that displays the development of the German education system. This story, which starts from the educational establishments of the 800s in the form of monasteries and reaches our time, is told in great detail.

    ENTERTAINMENT:
Parks, Games, Events, and Natural Areas

Friedrichshafen paints the picture of more of a university city. Let us point out that Lake Constance is also the third largest lake in Central Europe with its 273-kilometer-long shore and 536 square kilometer area.

The magnificent mountains surrounding the lake and the untouched natural area gives a quite authentic atmosphere to the whole geography. Friedrichshafen is a unique place for not only to stay and take a rest; but also for nature and adventure sports. The city also made a name for itself as the birthplace of the zeppelin; which was invented and started to be used at the end of the 19th century.

    FRIEDRICHSHAFEN IN ONE DAY
The Lake Constance Walking Trail, known as Bodenseepfad, is an unparalleled place for not only the beauties it has to offer as a sports area; but also the exploration of the animal and plant species in the region. You can head to the sightseeing area by the lake to get some fresh air and watch the exquisite view of the Austrian and Swiss Alps.

    CITY TOURS AND TRANSPORTATION
You can take part in the tours that are organized by the nature preservation center called Naturschutzzentrum located in Eriskirch, and complete the walking trail. Let us add that this trail is also an area that you can conveniently roam by renting a bicycle. You can use bicycles to explore the city region as well.

    NEARBY LOCATIONS
The ski resorts located near Friedrichshafen are quite abundant in number and variety. Due to its proximity to Switzerland, Austria, and even Italy; Friedrichshafen is one of the most frequented spots of winter sports tourism. St. Anton ski area on the western corner of Austria, Tyrol, Montafon Valley or centers such as LAAX in Switzerland can be included in the Friedrichshafen ski region.

  • Food & Drink

The cuisine of Friedrichshafen is very rich. The seafood products from Lake Constance, as well as traditional dishes of Southern Germany are quite varied and delicious. Lake fish is among the most popular items in restaurants.

The cafes of the city center deserve a section of their own. Coffees, cakes, baked goods, and ice creams are among what these places have to offer. On the other hand, they can be visited as the places where the serenity in the city can be felt the best.
