Jazz Festival enters 17th year
The 17th Akbank Jazz Festival, to be held this year from 17 October to 1 November, will once again waft an air of jazz through Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.
With organization by Pozitif and Akbank Sanat, the festival will kick off with a concert at Aya Irini by John Pizzarelli, who has recorded close to 40 albums. The Nublu Orchestra conducted by Butch Morris is another festival concert. With performances by artists such as Kenny Wollesen, Didi Gutman and İlhan Erşahin, the festival is going to offer jazz buffs a feast for the duration. Other names appearing in this year’s festival include the Grammy winner Phil Woods Quintet and American saxophone virtuoso Archie Sheep, who is coming to Turkey for the occasion. Venues for the festival, which will be supplemented with seminars and workshops, are Aya İrini, Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall, Babylon, Q Jazz Bar, Garaj Istanbul, Kemer Country Golf Club and the Akbank Art Center.
