Following its summer performances at the Aspendos, Bodrum and Ayvalık Art Festivals, the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet is starting its 2007-2008 season with a visiting performance of ‘Tango Europa’ by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet on 8 and 9 October.
This will be followed by ‘Heidi’, a musical for children, at 11 a.m. Saturday, 20 October. The season will open officially that evening with a gala concert at 8 p.m. Other works to be staged this season include Selman Ada’s ‘Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves’, Verdi’s ‘Macbeth’, Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, Mozart’s ‘Magic Flute’, and K Ludwig’s ‘In Search of a Tenor’. Children’s musicals such as ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘The Happy Prince’ and ‘Elma Kurtları’ will continue to entertain and educate youngsters throughout the season. For details, www.idobale.com
