Palace tailors’ records open to public
An exhibition entitled ‘Tailors to the Palace: M. Palma, D. Lena, P. Parma’ is opening at the Vehbi Koç Foundation’s Sadberk Hanım Museum till 11 January.
Consisting of the notebooks of the Parma tailoring workshop which served the Ottoman palace, the exhibition sheds light on the social life of the empire’s last years. First discovered in an Ottoman trade yearbook from 1868, two tailor’s notebooks from the workshop of the three Parma’s and chronicling the business of a palace tailor in the Pera district of Istanbul are featured in the exhibition along with clothing sewn for the palace by the firm, workshop materials, bills, photographs and advertisements. Through 11 January.
