Yahya Kemal's private writings go public
The private writings and memorabilia of the early 20th century neo-classical poet Yahya Kemal are being made public for the first time.
Included among the many items are random notes the poet took in his own hand, letters and postcards he sent, personal hotel bills and photographs he had taken of himself alone and with others. Titled “A Ship Silent for 50 Years”, the exhibition opens on 15 November.
Timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the poet's death, the exhibition includes private letters and correspondence that resonate with the great poems Yahya Kemal distilled from the many tragic losses he suffered in life. Through 13 December at the Yapı Kredi Sermet Çifter Gallery.
