Love By Any Other Name
The first large exhibition within the scope of the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture projects is now open.
‘Venice and Istanbul During the Ottoman Period: Love By Any Other Name’, the first exhibition of the Istanbul 2010 Capital of Culture, opened at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum on November 19. The aim of the exhibition is to chronicle the historical association and interaction between the two cities over a period that lasted from the 15th up to the 20th century. Featured in the exhibition are artifacts culled from museums in Venice as well as from Turkey’s Topkapı Palace, Yapı Kredi Vedat Nedim Tör, Turkish and Islamic Art and Pera Museums.
The exhibition includes a wide range of objects from manuscripts, paintings, carpets and caftans to coins, ceramics, medallions and gifts. Representatives of a common past, these artifacts testify to the intense historical, diplomatic, military, commercial, social and artistic relations between the two cities. Through September 28.
