Three Exhibitions In Berlin
Istanbul and Berlin are celebrating twenty years of being sister cities in the ‘Istanbul Next Wave’ project, which includes three exhibitions.
‘Istanbul Modern-Berlin’ is one of three exhibitions being held in honor of the twentieth anniversary of ‘sister city’ relations between the Istanbul and Berlin municipalities. Hosted by Martin-Gropius-Bau, the exhibition includes 66 works by 56 artists from Istanbul Modern’s permanent collection. Among those represented are a number of contemporary artists such as Burhan Doğançay, Erol Akyavas, Ömer Uluç, Mehmet Güleryüz, Nil Yalter, İnci Eviner, Canan Tolon, Haluk Akakçe, Sarkis, Ramazan Bayrakoğlu, Taner Ceylan and Pınar Yolaçan.
Another exhibition is curated by Beral Madra. The Akademie der Künste building on Pariser Platz is the venue for this exhibition, which brings together 17 women artists from Turkey, among them Yeşim Ağaoğlu, Nancy Atakan, İpek Duben, Nezaket Ekici, Gül Ilgaz and Şükran Moral. The third exhibition in Berlin is ‘Six Positions in Critical Art’. Opened at the Akademie der Künst’s art school on the Hanseatenweg, this exhibition features Halil Altındere’s overturned police car as one of its main attractions. All three exhibitions run through January 17, 2010.
