Warm Winter Concerts
December promises to be a lively, and consequently warm, month for Istanbul music lovers. Here’s a brief selection, but remember, it’s only the tip of the iceberg.
Chamber Orchestra
The Akbank Chamber Orchestra concerts with guests Andrea Tyniec (violin) and Gloria Campaner (piano) can be heard at the Caddebostan Culture Center on December 23 and Cemal Reflit Rey Concert Hall on December 24.
Pianist Matsuev
Acclaimed Russian pianist Denis Matsuev is the guest in December of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra. Matsuev will perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30, at the concerts, to be held at the Caddebostan Culture Center on December 16 and at Lütfî Kırdar on December 17.
Punk and rebel Nigel
Rebellious ‘punk’ of classical music with sales of over a million albums, Nigel Kennedy will be in Istanbul this month for three nights. One of the most outstanding violinists of his time, Kennedy will perform Hendrix classics in three concerts at Babylon on December 9, 10 and 11.
