The eagerly awaited Istanbul AFM International Independent Film Festival is coming to cinema buffs on 12-22 February.
As the economic crisis becomes more palpable by the day, !f Istanbul, based on the slogan, 'Starting with You!', is emphasizing the concept of renewal in every area from individual efforts at change and films on activism to workshops on topics such as 'make your own film', 'compose your own soundtrack' and 'create your own T-shirt'.
Among the eagerly awaited festival productions are the Darren Aronofsky film, The Wrestler, one of the year's most talked about and a sure candidate for an Oscar, starring the almost-forgotten Mickey Rourke to whom it brought a coveted Golden Globe, Wendy & Lucy with Michelle Williams in the lead role, Synecdoche NY, which was received to great acclaim in a number of last year's most prestigious film festivals including Cannes, Man on Wire, which took the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, and Religulous, Bill Maher's off-beat comedy mixing humor with politics.
