Uluburun shipwreck at New York's Metropolitan
Artifacts salvaged from the Uluburun shipwreck, which contains important clues about commerce, art and culture in the Near East and the Eastern Mediterranean region in the 2nd millennium B.C., are being shown in an exhibition entitled, 'Beyond Babel: Art, Trade and Diplomacy in the Second Millennium B.C.', at New York's Metropolitan Museum.
The Uluburun shipwreck is regarded as one of the ten most important finds of the last fifty years according to a leading U.S. archaeological journal. Now a total of 350 artifacts, 98 of them recovered from the ship and housed in the Bodrum Underwater Archaeological Museum and the rest from other collections in Turkey and other world museums, can be seen in New York through 15 March.
