Reality - Reflection – Illusion
Over the centuries Western and Eastern painting have developed in opposite directions, the former pursuing objective reality, the latter spiritual reality.
Plane mirrors were the only medium in which this rigid distinction, which prevents a modern synthesis of world culture, seemed to be eliminated. These enchanted areas which combine reality with reflection and illusion have been left hanging on walls in a dream of an ideal humanity. It is in such a landscape, adorned with the memories of all the cultures ever created, that seven leading contemporary artists attempt to pass through the mirror to arrive at a model of a new reality.
Featured in the ‘Reality - Reflection - Illusion’ exhibition, opening at Mine Art Gallery on 11 June, are paintings, pottery, sculpture and installations by Beril Anılanmert, Bilge Alkor, Candeğer Furtun, Meriç Hızal, Nur Koçak Balkan, Naci İslimyeli and Neriman Polat.
