Department of Civil Aviation publishing flurry
As part of the Regional Aviation Policy initiated by the Ministry of Transport in 2003, Turkish civil aviation has embarked on a process of very rapid development, chalking up huge successes in both the national and the international arena.
Capturing in 2005 - in other words, ten years ahead of schedule - the 55 million passengers that international organizations had forecast it to have in 2015, Turkey in 2008 brought its number of passengers up to 74 million a year in line with its target slogan: ‘Every Turkish citizen will board an airplane at least once in his lifetime.’ In an age when flying has ceased to be a privilege of the few and air travel is used by the broad masses of people, the Department of Civil Aviation has been restructured to meet the needs and expectations of this rapidly expanding sector more efficiently and effectively, and has become a leading authority in Turkey on the subject of regulations, inspections and rules. The Department of Civil Aviation is therefore pursuing its inspection activities so that civil aviation operations can be conducted without compromising flight safety or aviation security. In an important turning point in its history, the Department at the same time has also added training activities as a key item on its agenda within the framework of its authority as a regulatory agency. The Department of Civil Aviation has therefore undertaken publication of a series of books compiled in line with the needs and expectations of the sector and including translations of documents published by the international institutions of which our country is a member. Since 2007, fourteen reference works have been added to the aviation sector, all of them in the nature of guides for the relevant agencies and organizations. Filling a large vacuum in the field, the Department of Civil Aviation publications have been received with great interest by both the private sector and public agencies, most notably the Air Forces Command and the Department of Airport Management. The Department of Civil Aviation publications, which are being distributed free of charge to universities offering courses in the various branches of civil aviation, are also of interest as important reference works for architecture students and others who are interested in airline terminals.
