Autumn Strolls
Three suggestions for an autumn stroll: The country roads overlooking the Sea of Marmara, valleys of Cappadocia, and the sunny coasts of the Mediterranean.
CAPPADOCIA MYSTERY TOUR
With pigeons’ nests carved into a long, deep canyon, Güvercinlik Valley near Uçhisar is a virtual moonscape. Adorned with rock churches hollowed out by monks who took refuge here in the 9th century, the valley is laced with tunnels formed by its running waters. Safe to enter, they are perfect venue for an autumn stroll.
MEDITERRANEAN SUN
How about an extended hike through Taşucu, a small Mediterranean village near Mersin? The boat landing, surrounded by fish restaurants, coastal cafes, farm houses and bed&breakfasts, is the point of departure for tour boats going to Cyprus. And the Taşucu Amphora Museum, one of Turkey’s most impressive, awaits you on the esplanade.
BIRD’S-EYE VIEW OF THE MARMARA
Nestled against the slopes of a narrow, 945-meter-long valley on Mt. Ganos south of Tekirdağ, Uçmakdere village impresses with its trails overlooking the Sea of Marmara. Replete with red-roofed houses where tobacco leaves are spread out to dry, tiny country markets, congenial rustic coffeehouses and hospitable people, Uçmakdere will add vibrance to your autumn stroll.
