Back Again After 20 Years: The Yellowjackets
Touring the world since 1981 with indefatigable energy, the Yellowjackets are coming together with Istanbul jazz lovers this month after a hiatus of 20 years.
The legendary jazz and fusion group Yellowjackets are back in Turkey for the first time since 1989 when they came to promote their album ‘The Spin’ and performed at the Open Air Theater as part of the Istanbul Music Festival. Now they are meeting Istanbul jazz lovers again on 5 and 6 November. Formed in 1977 under a different name, the group released their first album in 1981 and are still going strong today despite many changes in the team over the years. Winner of two Grammys, for R&B in 1986 and best jazz fusion in 1988, the Yellowjackets released their most recent album, ‘Lifecycle’, in 2008. The album, with Mike Stern on guitar, is currently available at shops in Turkey. The concert, to take place at the Istanbul Jazz Center, will feature Russell Ferrante on keyboards, Jimmy Haslip on lead guitar, and Bob Mintzer on saxophone. On drums is Marcus Baylor, a leading name in the new generation of jazz musicians. Not to be missed!
