1 Day 3 Ideas
Sea, lake or waterfall... Three special ideas for one-day getaways in fall when you feel like getting out of the city.
WİLD NATURE: SÜNNETGÖL
One of Bolu’s most beautiful lakes, Sünnetgöl will introduce you to all of autumn’s spellbinding colors. Formed at 820 meters when a steep, wild valley was cut off by a landslide. A favorite with amateur fishermen and with picnickers for its green areas, the lake is surrounded by countless hiking and bicycle trails.
SEA AND FOREST: KERPE
Kerpe is a tiny coastal village nestled against pine forests in Izmit. The sculpturesque rock formations and caves immediately beyond the point at the right end of the coast are among the area’s attractions. Walking trails combining sea and forest together with the fish restaurants along the shore are a special treat in autumn.
HIDDEN WATERFALL: GÜZELDERE
Düzce’s highland and lake-studded township, Gölyaka boasts a natural wonder in the form of the Güzeldere Waterfall. Following the signs for Güzeldere from the bird sanctuary at Lake Efteni, you will come to the waterfall area, which is a virtual botanical museum with its monumental trees. Falling in cascades from a height of 135 meters, this waterfall is located in a valley with a dense pine cover.
HOW TO GET THERE
Two hours from Istanbul, Kerpe is at the end of the 10 kilometer road through Kandıra off the TEM. There is bus service to Kerpe as well from both Izmit and Istanbul.
Take the Hendek or the Düzce exit on the TEM; go first to Gölyaka and then follow the signs for the waterfall.
On the TEM from Istanbul, take the exit for Akyazı and then the Nallıhan-Göynük road. This will take you to the lake, which can also be reached by minibus from Göynük and Mudurnu.
