Turkish Airlines’ Shanghai Route Marks Its 10th Year
The 10th anniversary of the start of Turkish Airlines’ flights to Shanghai was recently celebrated in Shanghai at a spectacular dinner ceremony. Guests were awed by a display created by Chinese artists with grains of sand on a lighted panel and projected on a screen. Starting with the historic Silk Road and depicting both Istanbul and Shanghai, the displays - in particular the part showing Turkish Airlines’ destinations and, at the end, the name ‘Turkish Airlines’ written in Chinese and Turkish - were received to enthusiastic applause. Attending the event, which included a 10th anniversary cake-cutting ceremony, were Turkey’s Ambassador to Beijing, Murat Salim Esenli, Turkish Airlines’ Shanghai Manager, Gayret Yüksel, Chinese officials and the Turkish Airlines’ cabin crew, all of whom helped to cut the cake. Addressing the guests, Esenli and Yüksel both gave brief presentations on the evolution of the airline and its targets. Also taking part in the ceremony were a large number of Shanghai-based passengers, cargo agents and tour operators. Turkish Airlines’ scheduled flights to Shanghai got underway ten years ago on January 19, 2000. Three times a week with connections via Beijing at the start, this number was upped to five weekly direct Istanbul-Shanghai-Istanbul flights on July 1, 2009.
