A new name in world modern art, MAXXI has been on everyone’s lips for the last several months
Ataman In Istanbul
One of Turkish modern art’s most-watched figures in international art circles, Kutluğ Ataman will be a guest of Istanbul Modern from October 26, 2010 to January 30, 2011. “Mid-Career’, which brings together the milestone videos, films and installations in the artist’s career, is Ataman’s most comprehensive show in Turkey to date.
MAXXI (Museum of Art for the XXI Century) in Rome is Europe’s most talked about new modern art venue. Designed by architect Zaha Hadid, the museum was completed in 10 years at a cost of 150 million euros.
One of the first temporary exhibitions to be opened at MAXXI is Kutluğ Ataman’s ‘Mesopotamian Dramaturgies’. Featured in the exhibition, which runs through September 12, are eight of Ataman’s video installations including, ‘Cuba’, ‘Dome 2009’, ‘Column’ and ‘Journey to the Moon’. Curated by Cristiana Parella, ‘Mesopotamia Dramaturgies’ treats the meeting of tradition and modernity, the tension between them and the traumatic consequences of that meeting.
Other exhibitions at the museum, built over an area of 29,000 square meters, include ‘I’Immortale by Gino De Dominicis and ‘From Rationality to Enlightenment’ by Luigi Moretti.
