The Waiting İs Over
The Turkey leg of Sonisphere, which will take place over the summer in 11 different countries, is in Istanbul on June 25, 26 and 27.
It was back in March, I believe. Based on hearsay and information gleaned from the internet, most of the names still uncertain, he asked for June 25, 26 and 27 off, determined to spend the entire weekend - Friday, Saturday and Sunday - at Beşiktaş İnönü Stadium. The tickets were purchased, the countdown had begun. Naturally he was not alone in this venture. Colleagues from work and from his former workplace, roommates from his college dormitory… the list grew longer by the day. In 2008 they had all gone together to the Metallica concert. But this time was different. History was not repeating itself because it wasn’t only Metallica on stage this time.
The Sonisphere Festival, which rocked Holland, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Finland and England last year, was planning to tour 11 countries this summer at the same hectic pace, among them England, Poland, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Greece, Rumania, Spain, Sweden and Finland. And it was going to be in Istanbul for three days! The Sunday when Metallica would perform was especially crucial. Just think: on the stage with Metallica would be
Megadeth, led by former Metallica guitarist, Dave Mustaine, thrash metal giant and two-time Grammy winner Slayer, and Anthrax, who would be playing in Turkey for the first time. The ‘Big Four’ in the true sense of the word…
Also on the Turkey leg of the traveling festival with its more than satisfying lineup of artists for rock and heavy metal buffs are Rammstein, a big name in German music, and Manowar and Alice in Chains, who have thousands of fans in Turkey. Metal legend Heaven & Hell canceled out at the last minute.
Poised to whip up a veritable metal storm, the festival programs are almost the same in all the countries with slight differences. Taking the stage in England, for example, are the groups Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Mötley Crüe, Alice Cooper, Slayer, The Cult, Iggy&the Stooges and Anthrax. Based on this, combined tickets for the Turkey leg are practically sold out already even though two names are yet to be announced
