Tim Burton’s Trademarks
‘Alice in Wonderland’, directed by Tim Burton, opens in March.
As promised, Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is opening in both the U.S. and Turkey on March 5. Known for films from ‘Beetlejuice’, ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ to ‘Batman’, ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘Edward Scissorhands’, Tim Burton is making his first foray into the world of 3-D. The film, which was shot starting in May 2008, stars Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway. Based on Lewis Carroll’s original story, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is Tim Burton’s seventh film with Johnny Depp. Helena Bonham Carter plays the Red Queen and Depp the Mad Hatter in the film. Alice is played by a young Australian by the name of Mia Wasikowska.
Another important Tim Burton event is an exhibition that brings together almost all the director’s trademarks. Opening at New York’s MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) last November, it includes 700 examples from his work with everything from drawings and cartoons to puppets and draft video films going back to Burton’s high school years. A perfect fit for those eager for a close-up view of Burton’s trademarks.
