Following Berlin and Istanbul, the heart of cinema is beating this month in Cannes with the start of the 63rd International Cannes Film Festival on May 12th.
The eagerly awaited lineup for the 63rd International Cannes Film Festival, May 12-23, has been revealed. Among the names of note are Abbas Kiarostomi, Takeshi Kitano, Mike Leigh, Nikita Mikhalkov, and Bertrand Tavernier. The number of films on the Golden Palm list, which includes young masters like Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu, is changing by the day. Meanwhile, Woody Allen, Stephen Frears and Olive Stone are some currently out-of-competition names on the program, to which films can be added at the last minute.
Chairman of this year’s jury is the American director, Tim Burton. With Burton on the jury are Iranian director Jafer Panahi, Italian filmmaker Alberto Barbera, English actor Kate Beckinsale and French filmmaker Emmanuel Carrere as well as Benicio Del Toro, Victor Erice and Vittoria Mezzogiorno.
