The translation of Turkish literature into the world’s diverse languages is gaining momentum. So much so that we had difficulty making a small selection from among all the books. translated into foreign languages in recent months

The stories of Refik Algan, who made his name as the first writer to experiment with the ‘brief text’ or ‘very short short story’, have been published in Spanish in Chile. Winner of the Saik Faik Short Story Award, Algan recently traveled to Chile and to meet with his readers there on the occasion of the publication of his book.

Aslı Erdoğan

Cited in the May 2005 issue of France’s Lire magazine among the 50 writers that will leave their mark on world literature in the 21st century, Aslı Erdoğan’s complete short stories are now available in French. The book, ‘Tahta Kuş’ (Wooden Birds), has been published under the title ‘Les Oiseaux de Bois’, the title of a short story by the writer that took first prize in a 1997 competition sponsored by the German radio network Deutsche Welle.

A first novel sub-titled ‘A Novel of Revenge’ by young writer Murat Uyurkulak, ‘Tol’ has now appeared in French under the same title. The novel, described by poet Haydar Ergülen as “sheer poetry, with no poetical language or sentimental style,” brings a breath of fresh air to Turkish literature.
