Two Poets Meet And Read Their Poems In Paris. Starting With Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu’s Warning, ‘Don’t Make A Racket’, The Recording Continues With The Voice Of Nazim Hikmet.
“Okay, boss!” says Nazım Hikmet, “Shall we begin?” And Bedri Rahmi replies in that magnificent voice of his: “Ay ay, Captain!” Poems are read and discussed. An historic moment is recorded.
Now, half a century later, the voices of the two poets are finally coming to their fans. Carefully stowed away in a drawer since 1961, the recording is trotted out and turned into a book and a CD.
WHICH POEMS ARE THEY?
The book includes fifty-seven poems by Nazım Hikmet, read in his own voice on the CD, including two that are previously unpublished. On the recording, where Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu reads his poem ‘Mor’ (Purple), Nazım also reads the unfinished version of his well-known poem, ‘Saman Sarısı’ (Straw Yellow), which enables us to get to know the poet even better.
It seems the earlier title of this poem, dedicated to the poet’s beloved Vera, was ‘Bir Garip Yolculuk’ (A Strange Journey). There is also an interview with Nazım Hikmet at the end of the book.
