On Contemporary Colombian Art
19 UP-AND-COMING YOUNG CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS FROM COLOMBIA’S INTERNATIONAL ART WORLD ARE IN ISTANBUL.
Curated by the acclaimed Colombian and Latin American art critic Jaime Ceron, an exhibition, About the Land: Contemporary Art in Colombia, is on through August 11 featuring 37 works including photographs, paintings, sculptures, installations and videos.
The works, which develop different points of view on the land of Colombia and the phenomenon of being Colombian, aims to convey the breadth of social and symbolic boundaries. Curator Jaime Ceron says that those who tour the exhibition will cease fearing the Other and start seeing him as a kind of richness. Another aim of the exhibition, which was organized by the Colombia Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to build a bridge between the new generation of Colombian and Turkish artists.
For Travelers
Besides its coffee, Colombia is also famous for its flora and fauna, which make it a destination of interest to travelers. A wide variety of animals such as monkeys, jaguars, alligators, cougars, tapirs and armadillos live in the country’s Amazon Rainforests. In addition to tropical birds like the parrot and hummingbird, many butterfly, spider and insect species are also encountered in the country. And caimans and crocodiles are found in the Magdalena River.
