Honoring The Republic
Honoring The Republic
THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY IS CELEBRATING ITS 88TH ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR.
Espousing the goal of modern civilization reaching to as its founding purpose, the Republic of Turkey has continued to rise on solid foundations. In the first steps taken to amend Turkey’s absolute monarchical structure, the First and Second Constitutions were promulgated by the country’s parliament during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II. At the same time a cadre of young Ottoman officers was emerging, trained in the schools set up in during the period and cognizant of the changes taking place in the balances and policies of the wider world. Among them was Mustafa Kemal. Commander and veteran of Turkey’s struggle for independence, he was the founder of the Turkish Republic. We celebrate October 29th, Republic Day with gratitude and appreciation to Mustafa Kemal and his comrades-in-arms.
NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY
During the armed struggle he waged step by step in Anatolia, Mustafa Kemal Paşa always said, “There is only one form of sovereignty and that is national sovereignty. And it is the power of the people that is going to save the nation.”
