Mother Earth’s Blessings
Mother Earth’s Blessings
The first thing that comes to mind at the mention of healthy eating and organic agriculture, the Slow Food Movement is staging a special event in Turin, October 25 to 29.
Producers and sellers in the Balkan countries, including Turkey, will be in the forefront at Salone de Gusto and Terra Madre, organized by Slow Food, which also contributed to setting up Turkey’s first Earth Market in Foça. Visitors will have an opportunity to taste and buy the products of Earth Market producers and sellers including everything from jams to cheeses. More than 50 food communities are taking part in the event, which is sponsored by Italy’s Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry.
Another important aspect of the event, as Food Minister Carlo Petrini pointed out in the September 2011 issue of Skylife, is that it promotes the diversification of food and agricultural products worldwide and the consumption of local food products.
IN THE LEAD-UP TO TERRA MADRE AND SALONE DEL GUSTO
The Terra Madre Balkan Network met this year in Sofia June 29 to July 1 to discuss the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy and its impact on small-scale farmers in the EU countries.
